Using the board
It is very easy to get started using this bulletin board. There are a few concepts that you need to understand before starting out.
What is a bulletin board?
A bulletin board is a program that allows users to communicate by storing messages in a public space. Think of an online bulletin board as an electronic extension of a regular bulletin board where people pin messages to a cork board. The online bulletin board allows you to not only leave messages, but read messages left by others.
How is a bulletin board organized?
The organization of a bulletin board is pretty simple:
- Categories - a container for forums
- Forums - a container for topics
- Topic - a message containing replies
- Reply - a message or response to a topic
- Poll - a topic that contains an online poll where users can vote and see the results of the voting
On the top portion of the bulletin board there is a navigation bar which allows you to move around the board. This menu bar has links for the following sections:
- Search - Where you can search for content on the board
- My Profile - where you can interact with other users through private messages, manage your profile, manage your subscriptions, or organize your buddies.
- Posted Today - new topics posted to the board today
- Most Active - the most active topics on the bulletin board
- Help - the help section where you can learn how to use the board
Below the menu navigation is another navigation system that allows you to move through the different categories, forums and topics. The image below shows that navigation:
You can move through the different area's of the board by clicking on the links.
If you run into trouble while browsing the board, you can always click on the help link to return here for more help.
How can I create new content for the bulletin board?
You can create new content for the bulletin board by find the area you want to post a new topic to and then clicking the "New Topic" button. This will load a form which will allow you to post a message. Make sure to proof read your message as your message will become public as soon as you submit it.
