Creating new content

Creating new content on the bulletin board is fairly simple.  Currently there are two types of posts that you can create.

Creating Topics

A topic is the beginning of a thread of posts.  It differs from replies in that is allows you to choose the type of post and an icon representing the mood of the post.  Navigate to the location where you want to start a new topic.  You can do this by clicking on the forum which you want to create the topic in.

The following is a screen shot displaying the form that is presented when you click the "New Topic" button.

The form is pretty straight forward.  If you aren't logged in, you can login when submitting the post by entering your username and password.  If you are already logged in, the username and password fields will not appear.

Subject
The subject of the post describes in one sentence what the content of your post contains.  It will appear in the forum listing and when a user clicks on it, will bring them to your post.  Choose your subject carefully as it is the first thing that users will see when viewing posts.

Icon
The icon is an image the represents the feeling or mood of your post.  If you are posting a question, you should choose the question mark.  If you are happy, post the smiley face.

Attach File
If the administrator of this board has configured this forum to allow you to post files, then you will see the "Attach File" button.  By clicking on this button, you can upload a file and attach it to this post.  Note: You must attach the file before composing the post.  (Otherwise you will loose what you typed.)

Body
The body of the post in the big form box.  The board supports HTML, but the administrator might limit the types of tags you can use.  For more information on using HTML tags, please see this section:  Using HTML Tags in the Ideal BB.  If you click on the "Rich Text" button, it will allow you to type your message using a WYSIWYG editor.  This makes composing new posts much easier and much more like using a word processor.  There is no spell checking however.  The rich text editor only support Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher.  So make sure you have the correct browser before you click on the button.

Insert a smiley face
You can click on the smiley face icons below the post to insert them into your post.
